Multi-Building Campus Wayfinding
A wayfinding and visual system for a large multi-building church campus serving thousands of people every week.
Context
Community Bible Church runs a large multi-building campus with thousands of people on site each week, many of them first-time visitors trying to find a worship space or a classroom before the service starts.
My role
I developed the campus wayfinding system and created the broader visual system used across multiple ministry departments. I also co-led the volunteer creative team: directing volunteers, running team meetings, and keeping a group of contributors aligned on the same goals.
The constraints
Wayfinding has to work for everyone at once: children and grandparents, regulars and people who have never been there. It has to work in a hurry, from a distance, and without anyone needing to read a paragraph.
Approach
- A system, not signs. A consistent structure of color, symbol, and typography that could extend across directional signs, building identifiers, and maps.
- Distinct but related. Each area of campus received its own identity within one coherent family, so people could recognize both “where am I” and “I’m still on the same campus.”
- Built to be extended. The same visual system carried into ministry materials, weekly service pieces, and major annual and holiday campaigns.
Outcome
The wayfinding system gave the campus a single, legible visual language, and the broader system it grew from was adopted across multiple ministry departments.
